Giới thiệu GPU Safeguard+: Công nghệ bảo vệ GPU tiên tiến trên bộ nguồn thế hệ mới của MSI.

Case & Components

At CES 2026, you’ll find 3 brand-new power supplies from MSI, featuring our latest GPU safeguard feature. We’ve engineered these new PSUs (Power Supply Units) to directly combat certain issues around the 12V-2x6 connector that we’ve seen in the past few years.

So, let’s talk about safety and how GPU Safeguard addresses them.

With the release of powerful GPUs like the RTX 5090, gamers and creators did get access to an incredible amount of graphics horsepower. But it also meant that power consumption through a single 12V 16-pin connector started reaching ‘the limit.’

Although this setup works when everything’s functioning normally, things can go horribly wrong. For instance, there might be an imbalance across one of the connectors or a peak power surge lasting longer than a few milliseconds.

You might’ve seen examples of such issues presenting themselves as reports of connectors burning and/or melting in the past couple of years. While our dual-color connectors have mostly addressed issues caused by loose connections, we wanted to do a bit more to address the other factors that can contribute to this overheating.

The challenge with detecting these “other” issues is that they often remain hidden and silent until it’s already too late – by the time you notice a fault or crash, your hardware may have already suffered damage. And it’s an impossible ask to do things like constantly monitor internal currents across each pin in that 12V-2x6 connector while you’re in the middle of a gaming session or working on a project.

But ignoring these anomalies for prolonged periods can lead to irreversible hardware damage.

So, we set out to address these issues by designing a feature with a singular goal – identify potential problems and warn you as early as possible.

The result: cutting-edge GPU Safeguard and GPU Safeguard+ features for our latest MAG and MPG Power Supplies launching at CES 2026!

A Closer Look at MSI’s GPU Safeguard and GPU Safeguard+

This active protection mechanism relies on our newest PSUs detecting anomalies (fault) on their end by constantly monitoring for potential problems. For example, if it detects too much current sent down a single pin or excessive power spikes that last more than a few milliseconds.

Once these anomalies trigger the safety mechanism, you’ll immediately hear beeps – alerting you to the issue.

This is Phase 1 of the protection.

For our MPG Power Supplies with GPU Safeguard+, you’ll hear the beeps and also see a pop-up warning from MSI Center that alerts you to this issue. This beeping will continue for up to 3 minutes, giving you enough time to save your work.

At this point, you should cut power immediately or force a shutdown by holding down your case power button for 5 seconds.

Now, if you aren’t around when this safety triggers, the Power Supply will intervene to prevent hardware damage once those 3 minutes pass and force a black screen, while continuing the beeping.

For our MAG Power Supplies with GPU Safeguard, this phase remains identical – the buzzer will continue beeping and the screen will go black – forcing you to shutdown and reseat the cable.

In either case, the only way to get your PC up and running safely again is by shutting it down, unplugging the 12V-2x6 connector from your graphics card, inspecting for damage, and firmly re-plugging it if all’s well.
